The innovation was found in the beta version 2.23.16.19 for Android. When activating the new feature, an icon in the form of a waveform will appear in group chats. When you tap on it, a voice chat will automatically start. Anyone in the group can join the chat and start a conversation. If there is no activity in the chat for 60 minutes, it is automatically terminated.
The main advantage of voice chats is the ability to initiate a call without calling each participant. However, all users will receive a silent push notification when a chat is created in their group. All audio calls in WhatsApp, as well as other messages, will be encrypted by default using end-to-end protocol.
Recall that Telegram introduced the voice chat feature back in 2020, but WhatsApp has the advantage of more than 2 billion users worldwide.
