AMD FSR 3 frame generating technology will be available on some older graphics cards
In addition to the Radeon RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT graphics cards, AMD unveiled FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) supersampling technology at Gamescom 2023, which will significantly improve gaming performance through Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) frame generation.
The first games with FSR 3 support that will be available in early fall will be Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum. Later, FSR 3 support will appear in the following games: Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, Cyberpunk 2077, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine II, Frostpunk 2, ADERS, SQUAD, Starship Troopers Extermination, Black Myth WUKONG, Crimson Desert and Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth.
For example, in the game Forspoken in 4K resolution at maximum graphics quality settings and active ray tracing without FSR 3 performance on Radeon RX 7900 XTX was only 36 fps, and with FSR 3 in Performance mode it increased to 122 fps.
During the presentation, AMD noted that FSR 3, like previous versions of the technology, will be supported on some older graphics cards, including Nvidia and Intel adapters, as well as consoles. The feature will not be exclusive to flagship models.
In addition, the company will release technology in early 2024 that will add an upscaler with frame generation "in thousands of games" on DirectX 11 and 12. This means that developers won't have to manually integrate frame generation into their games - there will be a dedicated and convenient tool for this. The technology will be part of the HYPR-RX software package ((Super Resolution, Radeon Boost and Anti-Lag+), which only works with the Radeon RX 7000.
